Protect yourself with Travel Vaccines before departing for overseas.
In New Zealand there are several diseases that are not included in our routine vaccination schedule. This is because we have done well in eliminating them with our existing vaccination rosters, or having very few cases in the country. However, uncommon diseases like Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Hepatitis A are present in many countries overseas. Covid-19 is, of course, a serious consideration and vaccination, especially before travel is recommended.
It is wise for you to be vaccinated against them before you leave NZ, as it is possible to catch these diseases when travelling. We can give you up to date information on your Travel Vaccination Requirements.
Required Vaccinations for Travel may include:
- Polio booster
- Hepatitis A or B
- Tick-borne encephalitis
- Various strains of meningitis
- Yellow fever
As the Required Vaccinations for travel to different countries vary and also change from time to time, let our expert team advise you . They stay informed on current guidelines for travel immunization and can help you plan timings to have your jabs before you travel abroad from New Zealand.
Timeframe for getting Travel Vaccinations.
We advise you to book Book in at our travel immunization clinic 8 to 10 weeks before you plan to depart.
This is because you need more than one dose for some vaccinations. Also, it takes time for your body to develop immunity for you to be fully protected.
At your appointment our clinic staff can give you information about other health issues while travelling. Things like reducing your risk of getting a blood clot (DVT) when flying, or putting together a Travellers’ Medical Kit.
If you are visiting a region where malaria is a risk, you may need to be prescribed medication to prevent this infection. It could be advisable to start taking this before departure.
