centre? It is best to come into our Auckland family planning clinic as soon as possible after having unprotected sex, as the emergency contraceptive pill (ECP).\u00a0<\/p><p>Did you know the emergency contraceptive pill most effective at preventing pregnancy when you take it in the first 24 hours?\u00a0 However, the ECP will work up to 3days (72 hours ) after unprotected sex.\u00a0<\/p><p>The ECP pill prevents pregnancy by delaying the release of an egg from the ovary and altering the lining of the uterus so an egg will not implant and grow.\u00a0 Also, you might have heard it called the Morning After Pill.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-634eaef elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"634eaef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Are there side effects to the Morning After Pill?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-94d34fa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"94d34fa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Some women do feel sick after taking the ECP.\u00a0 For this reason, we advise that you take it with food. However, if you vomit within 3 hours of taking the morning after pill, do ask for advice, as you may need another pill.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-95f03f6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"95f03f6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How effective is emergency contraception?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-88c5ac0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"88c5ac0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The ECP works best in women weighing under 70kg.&nbsp; If you are over this weight other options may be suggested, like a copper IUD (intrauterine device). This works by preventing the implantation of a fertilised egg. This method may also be suggested if you have a medical condition which prevents you from taking oral contraception. Fortunately, an IUD is a simple and quick&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.botanyjunctionmedical.co.nz\/services\/minor-surgery\/\">minor surgery<\/a>, so we can fit this at our centre.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, it is recommended to have a pregnancy test 3 to 4 weeks after taking the Emergency Contraception Pill to check that you are not pregnant.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e018e79 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e018e79\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is the right contraception for you?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0cbc124 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0cbc124\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Our clinic GPs are trained in family planning and are happy to advise you on your regular contraception and emergency contraception if needed.
